New GeForce New Game Freezing

A couple of months ago I installed a GF6600 256agp card. Seemed to work fine until
I started buying newer games (image freezes on screen and sound studders, only hard
power off does anything). With all I have done to upgrade my computer since (ram,
power supply, and even a new monitor, not overheating) I can play old games and even
Doom 3, but a lot of games freeze. Does anyone know of anyone with this problem.
Internet works fine, just newer games. Even Nvidia help on the phone had me check
my bio and even tried to change settings and nothing helps. Company of Heros seems
to hang at the same place each time I play it. Don't think overheating is a problem.
It hangs just a few minutes into playing it. Now today a new development. I called
Gateway and they sent me a Bios update. I updated my Bios and tried a game I know
that freezes rather quickly. It ran the senerio choppy and un-geforce 6600 like,
but for the first time no freeze. I thought good, now I will delete my latest GeForce
driver and reinstall it (same driver 93.71). Did it and tried the game. Ran smooth,
and I was thinking is this finally the answer after all this time? Well a few minutes
later, Freeze. Is it always the best idea to have the latest driver? Any suggestions,
I'm really getting frustrated. I bought my Gateway 3 yeras ago from Gateway, so I
thought I would buy an updated Card from them and because it have been almost 2 months
of this agony they washed their hands of it referring me to Nvidia for replacement.
I have an P4 2.53, 1 gig ram, so this is no tortoise. I'm curious why after updating
the Bios the game played through, but performance wise it stank. And why did the
uninstalling and reinstalling did the performance improve but the freezing resumed?
