You didn't read his messages, stereo speakers require a lot of power to drive them, 
that's why people buy big amplifiers. Yes, your stereo is powered, but the speakers 
for it are not.  Your laptop can not put out enough current to get any significant 
volume out of the stereo speakers. Nothing will blow up, you just won't hear the 
sound.
