I have this same problem but I think its my c-media AC97 audio device. This is because
I had problems with BSOD's giving me the STOP win32K.sys with a 00..8E message. But
I also have some other bsod messages. I didn't find the cause untill I started to
have problems if I wanted to start up Call of Duty, I have a message that says "5
soundfiles are missing or in bad format'. The first time I had this problem I looked
in my hardware devices my audio device was marked with a "?" I figured that if I
start up CoD directly after a windows startup that my game is not giving me this
error message and it works. But if I wait for about 1 or 2 minutes after the windows
startup than it not possible to start up my game. Now I don't have this questionmark
anymore but the problems are still there.
The problem is also that I can't find a GOOD and recent driver for my audio device.
I allready looked if my drivers where up to date with driver detective and it shows
me that my driver for this device is old or not good.
I give a very detailed explaination about my problem and I hope that with this information
someone can find the solution for this problem. Good luck.
