XP won't boot on partitioned disk

I've set up dual-boot on my Hard disk (Western Digital 160 GB) with two operating
systems - XP and 98SE. HD has four partitions:
First one (C:) is FAT32, and the rest are NTFS (WinXP is on D:). I've also installed
SP2, Windows Defender, and every critical update for XP. I also have XPize
4.6 Beta 1 installed on XP (GUI enhancer) - http://xpero.msfn.org/.
Everything was working fine (for about an week) until today. When I started XP it
would just freeze on "loading" screen (not sure about the lingo) with HD led lit
up. I tried to repair Windows with WinXP Pro installation disk (Includes SP 1a).
While repairing, 2 files couldn't be copied: ipp_0005.gif and ipp_0006.asp.
So that didn't solved my problem. Windows 98SE are working fine.
I would like to get to the bottom of this problem without the need of formating the
disk and reinstalling XP, because I have lots of important programs and files installed.
And may I also note that both Windows XP and 98SE are legal.
Thanks in advance.
