Not relevant.
Sounds like maybe a hardware problem developed while your daughter was working on
the computer, certainly unusual, but not impossible.
Yes, the floppy could have had a virus, but this doesn't really sound like a virus,
although I would hesitate to completely rule that out.
As an aside, it's really a bad idea to open files from a floppy disk, it's fairly
easy to corrupt the entire floppy disk, losing all of the data on it.
At this point you should do some basic hardware troubleshooting. Begin with seeing
if you can get into the bios setup. If you have an old W9x boot floppy, see if you
can boot with that. If those work, then write back, if they don't work write back.
