Not sure where Steve got his info on a thermistor but it isn't a self resetting circuit
breaker. "A thermistor is a thermally sensitive resistor whose primary function is
to exhibit a change in electrical resistance with a change in body temperature."
In other words, it is used for temp sensing circuits.

Your machine needs to go to an (authorized) service facility that can diagnose and
repair it. Probably should send the power brick (otherwise known as the power adaptor)
in with it to so that both can be checked. Everything is so integrated in a portable
that they usually just swap out defective boards. Rarely will they repair a board
as many can't be repaired depending on the problem. Good Luck!
