re: Empty Device Manager - Uninstalling KB905749 worked for me Thursday, November 30, 2006 at 1:19 pm Windows XP Annoyances Discussion Forum Posted by Bronygraig (1 messages posted) My PC stopped starting up, I finally got it going by going into msconfig and starting up with the minimum start up files & un checking the plug and play tick box, the machine would work well enough but no peripherals would, then I found this thread!! Removing security update Kb KB905749 then rebooting, go to msconfig and re-activating ‘plug & play’ and the device manager is working again. Many thanks, my PC has been poorly for months!
