Thanks for your replies Steve and Dan.
@Steve - I did the install like I do any install an Fdisk, format and rebuild so
there was nothing left of Win98.
I've haven't had an hardware change for a few years, its the same hardware as the
last XP install.
There is one thing I noticed last week. I make programs in VB and I made a memory
checker a few years ago. It checks available memory and free memory. I noticed that
the free memory was only 7Mb out if 256Mb. I thought this was low because it normally
shows 180Mb. So is there one of the 128Mb strips are playing up I will have to test
some more. I checked it later on and it was back to 180Mb, so it fluctuates. Thats
with nothing running.
The M$ link that Dan posted talks about memory. I downloaded the file. It talks about
loading onto a bootable floppy to test. Ok I made a bootable floppy and ran mtinst.exe.
You decide if you want a bootable floppy or a HD partition. I selected floppy, it
copied files onto the floppy. I looked at the files on the floppy and there were
no system files, it wasn't bootable anymore.
I checked for any BIOS updates for my Award v4.60PGA and nothing came up. As I said
before XP installed 18 months ago on the same computer configuration no problem.
So the only thing left is this memory problem.
