Ok this will help about 99% of you with this problem I believe.
If you are running Norton AntiVirus (most versions I believe, but for sure 200x (ie.
2004 or 2005)) or a Norton/Symantec package which includes NAV200x, THERE IS A KNOWN
"ISSUE" regarding MSN Messenger (msmsgs.exe) which WON'T LET IT BECOME DISABLED from
msconfig or from the internal Options settings!!!!
However, there IS A FIX! If you have "Instant Messenger" enabled (checked) within
NAV for Windows Messenger, Windows will run msmsgs.exe all the time!!! If you stop
it, it will restart it! Now, the theory behind this is that NAV can't check/monitor
Windows Messenger if it's not running! (Doesn't occur with AOL Messenger tho - go
figure!).
Therefore, msmsgs.exe will be visible in the Task Manager under "Processes" all the
time, if you end task, it'll restart! This one bothered me ENDLESSLY for a VERY
LONG TIME, so I feel the need to pass this info along to anyone who needs it!
The fix is......
1.) In NAV, go to "Options".
2.) From the list on the left, select "Instant Messenger".
3.) UNCHECK the box for "Windows Messenger".
4.) Click "OK"
THAT'S IT, YOU'RE DONE! :)
Msmsgs.exe should now stop running under Processes (unless, of course, you have Windows
Messenger running)...and it won't keep coming back on you!
Hope it helps, I believe it will - did for me!
