I made out very well but it cost me. I was anxious to make sure I retrieved my personal files so I contacted a professional data retriever who was very successful. As long as he was retrieving the data he offered to get the computer working again. He was successful at that also but he said it was the most complicated job he ever had. He wasn't able to pinpoint what the original problem was but at that point I didn't care. Again, thanks to you and the others who tried to help with detailed and helpful replies.
