Glad you got your data and the system fixed. Sorry it cost $$$ to do so.
This demonstrates the need for good, timely backups, hey? You really should look
into setting up a backup strategy, preferably multi-tiered.
Install a 2nd hard drive then use a program like MirrorFolder (not free) to make
scheduled or real-time backups of your critical files.
Invest in good backup software like Acronis True Image or Norton Ghost or use the
free DriveImage XML (I use this on all 3 of my computers) then backup to the 2nd
(or external hard drive) regularly. I do full backups about every two weeks to an
external 250GB USB drive.
Files like pictures and music can be backed up to CD or DVD as well since the don't
change.
