Anton, even though I only have 1 hardware profile, I followed your directions and
changed it to 4. It worked!! you are my Hero!!!!
Here are all the symptoms that you solved!!! (to help anyone out there doing a search
for an answer)
• Drop and drag did not work.
• Copy and Paste would not work.
• Internet Explorer would not open.
• Event Viewer gave the error message: Event 4689
• Nero Burning Rom error message: An error using Com /Ole occurs. Please check the
installation of COM on your computer
• When starting an Office program like Word, Error message: This document could not
be registered. It will not be possible to create links from other documents to this
document.
• Message says printers not installed.
• User accounts is empty
• Cannot access run: secpol.msc
• Error Message: Windows Installer service could not be accessed …. If you are running
windows in safe mode or if the windows installer is not correctly installed (But
I was not running in Safe Mode)
• Network Connections missing: No connections listed in Internet Connections
• Tabs or windows opened do not show on the Task Bar. Task bar is locked and does
not show icons in bottom left side, except ZA, and I think time.
• Cannot access J drive (storage drive)
• Could not access many items in services to start or change from manual to automatic
so several things, even though they were set to auto, were not running that should
have been, including The com+ system application, Remote procedure Call (RPC) which
is vital to be running, and others. When I tried to click start for Background Intelleigent
transfer services, I got this ERROR message: COULD NOT START, ERROR 1068: THE DEPENDENCY
SERVICE OR GROUP FAILED TO START. When I tried to click start for RPC, error said:
Could not start RPC Error 1058. the services could not be start either bec it is
disabled or bed it has no enabled devices.
hope this helps someone.
