Sorry - I'm not going to be helpful. I have the same problem with a new mobo (Gigabyte
GA-M51GM-S2G) and an ATA Maxtor drive. I've used Maxtor's low level format to clean
the drive. Like Jay I have an OEM version. Also window98 installed without problem.
At least the only problem was Gigabyte don't do w98 drivers (that I can find).
I've tried contacting them without success.
Final point - before the ql12160.sys message came up XP install would get to the
screen where it asks me to to continue setup f3 to quit. If I try f3 nothing
happens - just before the above screen appears the num lock and other keyboard led
light up as when the computer switches off - so it looks to me as though install
is disabling the keyboard. Personally I'm at a loss
