I am going to revive this dead thread, instead of starting a new one. Tried to boot
computer (XP, SP2 or 3, I forget) and before desktop appeared, I got "lsass.exe Application
Error - The instruction at ""0x7574ce634" referenced memory at 0x000d5004- The memory
could not be "read." Click on "OK" to terminate the program. Click on "cancel"
to debug. then another small window appears with "NT Authorization system shutdown
- 1073741819."
I can boot into safe mode, and I have NAV, it was fully functioning before this morning.
I scanned in safe mode and no virus was found (Can I trust this?).
Since I cannot connect to the internet in safe mode, how else can I try any updates,
patches, etc.? I have a laptop and internet access from that - should I put a patch
onto my USB disk and run it from there?
Hubby was trying to copy some files from one giant HD onto another, which hung the
applications last night, but once I got that operation stopped, I thought everything
was fine. Son also grabbed some gifs off the internet, so I was afraid he'd also
nabbed a worm...
Please walk me through this as if I were a newbie. I'm not, but it's hard to do
this in print, much easier in person. I just don't know where to start. I'm very
grateful that I can get into Safe Mode! Where do I go to find my System Restore
Settings to turn that off, also?
TIA,
Juliane
