Thanks for the insight on removing Google Desktop. Combining this info with the
advice from 666 about how to get to the add/remove programs function through the
command prompt, I fixed the problem on my machine. Here's what I did:
Problem started when I used Seagate's utility disk to move my files to a new HDD.
On reboot, the taskbar would pop up for a second, then disappear. I could get to
Task Manager with ctrl+alt+delete to run programs, but neither the GUI (explorer.exe)
or Internet Explorer would run. I ran appwiz.cpl from Task Manager to get to add/remove
programs. As soon as I uninstalled the Google Desktop, IE popped up at a Google
page asking why I uninstaled the desktop. After screwing around with this for hours,
needless to say, I was eager to give Google some "feedback"...
