Is this a new install of XP or have you added hardware lately? I had the same problem when I when from XP Media to XP pro. I removed the disk partitions and formated to start clean and kept getting errors, this one the most often. Turns out one error was caused be an old modem that was non-XP compatible. The ntfs.sys not found or corrupt went away when I removed a recently added Ram module, so the RAM module was either damaged or non-XP compatible.
