To Doc n Alex, I understand that the preloaded XP wallpapers are stored in C:\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpaper.
That wasn't the issue; the issue/question was how to alter WHERE explorer looks for
add'l wallpaper images bc explorer checks C:\Documents and Settings\%user name%\My
Documents\My Pictures and C:\Windows\Resources\Themes in addition to the default
Wallpaper folder for any/all compatible image formats. I wanted a registry fix to
exclude the latter two folders so as to minimize the list in the Desktop Background
List in the Display Properties menu.
Phil, thanx for the heads up on the download, but that’s not really getting at the
root of the issue either. Neat app though, with the automated rotating of the wallpapers
n all.
Um, Kevin……Although at the outset it seemed dumb to have to create 2 image folders
just to separate the files I intend to use for wallpapers from other image files,
I guess that's what I'll do; it still seems to me that there should be a backdoor
way to direct where explorer checks for wallpaper images, specifically-down to the
subfolder.
However, now that I've configured it to my liking, it's not so bad. I renamed the
default My Pictures file to Wallpapers and just created another file in the same
directory called "Pictures" to house all of my- you guessed it- pictures. And now
I can just copy/paste or dragndrop a copy into the Wallpapers folder and retain the
original in the new Pictures folder for safe keeping. Anywho, I’m over it at this
point anyway. The whole, have all the image, well, all of those image files cohabitating
in 1 My Pictures folder was more of an aesthetic issue anyway.
Thanks to all respondents for the tips and suggestions.
