Desktop file icons that just won't go away

I'm very anal retentive and insist that my desktop is clear of clutter and unwanted
junk. That being said I have three objects on the desktop that seem impossible to
remove. They seem to have randomly generated names, no extensions, and the properties
list them simply as "files". I get the feeling that they may have been generated
by the AdobeCleanup process that runs with Acrobat 8, but that's just a guess. In
order to save some time I'll list what I've tried to do so far:
Simply Delete them - "Cannot delete file. Cannot read from the source file or disk"
Rename them - "Cannot rename file. Cannot read from the source file or disk"
Restart in Safe-mode - Same problems
Killbox - "File Error - File does not seem to exist"
Move them somewhere else on the damn computer so I don't have to look at them - They
won't move.
I think that's everything I've tried. I recently reformatted and would really prefer
not to have to do it again, but I'm obsessive enough that if I can't get rid of them
I would probably do that.
Any help? Anyone?
BTW - I'm running XP Pro with SP2 installed. Thanx
