Ok, after 2 reboots finally managed to get it to show, before trying to copy:

CPU Usage shows between 2 & 7%

when copying from external drive to C drive "My Documents":

CPU Usage shows 29%

Copying says its going to take 170 mins, but, animation pauses regularly, time doesn't 
go down, I click cancel and pc locks up, have to reboot...
