I think that oft-quoted stat was compiled more or less a month or two after SP2 was
released in Aug of 04.
Along the lines of what we are seeing with hardware and software lagging behind Vista's
launch, my guess would be that many of the problems would have been due to software
incompatibilities that for the most part have been ironed out. Commerical nonproprietary
software that was not ever updated to co-exist with SP2 would have simply fallen
off the radar screen by now.
So other than maybe that pesky Prescott processor problem that had a relatively easily
identifiable signature and that was relatively easy to correct, my expectation is
that on a virus and malware free system with up to date versions of common apps,
SP2 should install quite nicely.
