Using msconfig can be problematic. There are some processes that reassert themselves, and changes sometimes occur in the boot menu. For trouble free startup control, I rely on free WinPatrol: http://www.winpatrol.com/ For what I have learned about controlling background/startup processes, see my Vox: http://doc1101.vox.com/
