I had the same problem on a Toshiba Satellite A105-S004 laptop running windows xp
sp2. To fix the problem I went to the download page on Toshiba's web site, searched
for downloads for sound, downloaded and installed their Realtek High Definition Audio
driver. Worked like a charm.
