It's a reg thing but none of these worked

I've been through all of these settings and none of them worked. As a last resort,
I restored my registry to 3 weeks ago (i've installed some stuff since then so was
reluctant to do it). This fixed the problem and in fact sped up my machine somewhat.
I have made no software changes today, however this issue happened at 7.30 this evening.
I stuck a cd in (wind98 I think for a virtual machine), and when I ejected the disk,
the image on my computer did not update.
I rebooted the machine and then when I placed subsequent discs in, the image would
not update in My Computer again. It stated DVD/CD Drive (D:).
It is almost as if the update on CD's is being affected somehow.
New plan, back up registry every week. That could be a good general rule anyway
