Quite awhile ago, my audio quit - I now suspect because of a Window's update. Way
back then, I "rolled back" the driver (it rolled back to Realtek AC'97 Audio). I
then had sound, but it echoed badly.
Today, I decided to tackle the problem again. I tried updating my driver using Window's
Update. Instead of Realtek, I now had C-Media AC97 Audio Device and NO sound (the
volume icon had even disappeared from my toolbar). I checked the device manager
& it said it wasn't working and a "Code 10".
I used a search engine to search "C-Media AC97 Audio Device" which led me to this
forum. I read through the suggestions. I did not want to roll back again because
I feared it would bring back the echoing again. Instead I tried this link as suggested
in this forum : http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4400.html .
And VOILA! It worked! The device now reads as Realtek AC'97 again, BUT I now have
sound with NO echoing!!!! I can now listen to my favorite radio shows via computer
- and actually enjoy it!
