Windows XP's Online Crash Analysis is on my personal list of the 5 best things about
Windows XP.
Microsoft actually analyzes the data from the reports and has corrected quite a few
problems. Just the other day a customer called to say that his normally very reliable
XP Pro computer blue-screened as he was trying to work with a Lan Fax program. I
remoted in and tried it myself, also seeing the bluescreen. After the computer restarted,
OCA displayed a dialog box of what was wrong, what program caused the problem, and
what MS KB I needed to read to fix the problem. Now that's a useful feature!!!
(Turned out there was a problem with an incompatibility with a Ricoh Lan Fax driver
and a recent Windows Update....off to the KB to get the fix, boom, done in less than
5 minutes.)
This type of report-analysis-fix feature does rely heavily on people sending in those
reports, though, so I would encourage you to keep doing so.
