If you're just trying to get more SPACE on your drive: Go to My Computer, rt.click C: (or drive of choice), click Properties (at the bottom of the Context menu), check the box at the bottom marked "Compress drive to save space", click "Apply" button. Short (?) time later, much freed space. Everthing will work as before; names will be in color (blue by default) to identify files/folders as compressed.
