Ok so that how I finally fixed the problem!
My situation:
-----------------
Computer was working (WinXP Pro SP2) fine till 1 nice day I had 2 move it 2 another
location. I unplugged all cables including the printer (Canon PIXMA IP3000, USB cable)
& after I moved it I set everything up again. 1 important thing I should mention
is I cant remember if I really turned it off or if it was in hibernating status when
I put it off the socket (just in case that matters).
When I turned it on again I faced the same situation like almost every1 here: System
started, then even before all programs were loaded in the tray (Norton AV 2006 &
some Widcomm bluetooth software) everything got sooooo slooooooow that even opening
the task manager required a waiting of an hour. Then in task manager I also saw this
sweet little proggy running which we all here love so much meanwhile, spoolsv.exe,
eating up 97%-100% of my CPU. When I was killing it it was trying 2 come back but
after enough kills (3-4 times right on the head) finally it was absolutely dead &
the computers performance was ok again but now I when I opened "printers & faxes"
2 check the printing queue the folder was freakin empty, as expected.
The above situation didnt change even after I also connected the printer & tried
it on every single USB, just 2 b sure.
I tried everything that is told in this (& other) forum(s) but 1st I couldnt open
the "printers & faxes" folder without having 2 kill the spoolsv.exe & 2ndly there
werent any files in windows\system32\spool\printers 2 delete.
So what do ya do in such a situation? Yep - you get pissed off.
How I fixed the problem (while pissed off):
----------------------------------------------------
I was almost thinking 2 format the system & in a last attempt 2 save it I started
2 uninstall some programs I was using frequently 4 text editing etc. (& which I therefore
used frequently 2 print documents):
1 - Uninstalled the bluetooth software. Not really a text editor but still, it was
my very 1st suspect since the system seemed 2 freeze while starting. Needless 2 say:
No success.
2 - Uninstalled Nokia PCSuite. Also not a text editor but it was just a good opportunity
2 get rid of this 1 too since it caused some trouble in the past as well & I was
hating it. No success.
3 - Uninstalled Adobe Acrobat (has "PdfMaker" which I use a lot 2 create pdf files
& probably I used it also (together with MS Word) b4 I switched off / set the PC
2 hibernate just b4 its transportation). While waiting the system 2 restart I was
even ready 2 uninstall MS Office as my suspect No3 but then, hey, windows started,
problem was gone! Everything were fast again, spoolsv.exe opened also but runned
(& runs till today) with almost 00% CPU & "printers & faxes" could also open finally
but most important, I had my printer icons back! So nice 2 see them in there again
after 2 weeks, being there close together in the upper left corner of the window
& watching so innocent & silent at me, I almost cried :~-D
Of course I also printed something 2 test the printer & everything worked fine.
So I think if there r no files in windows\system32\spool\printers maybe 1 should
think what suspect progs he was working with when the problem 1st occured & if nothing
else works even try 2 uninstall them 1 by 1! I know thats an old hat but hey, its
the only method that worked 4 me!
Good luck 2 everyone & keep smiling!!
