Gary, I would recommend that you save your important data then use the restore disk
that came with your computer.
It's possible the restore disk will allow you to a Repair Install (install over
the existing XP, leaving your data intact) or a Clean Install (wipes everything).
Look in the users manual that came with the computer.
What is the make and model, perhaps I can find some info online that will help.
