Ok... things have gone from bad to worse.... I have run a full virus scan (Nod32)
checked for adware/spyware with both spybot and adaware, defragged my registry and
tried to run sfc /checknow... when I run sfc it tells me that it needs the winXP
cd... I insert the restore/OS disc that came with the pc and it tells me that the
wrong cd is inserted. borrowed a copy of winXP home OEM cd from a friend, downloaded
sp2 slip-streamed and created bootable disc and triedthat... still tells me I have
inserted the wrong cd. Try to boot in safe mode and my lcd monitor just shows a
box saying frequency out of range. Tried booting normally and accessing Nero so
that I could at least back up my files and Nero won't load so I tried 3 different
live linux distros (ELive, Knoppix and Damn Small) and still no joy... I can access
my windows drive and view/execute files, but I cannot burn a dvd. Process fails
after about 4%.
