If this is your first computer and you will be learning how to use a new operating
system anyway, Linux is free.

it is an illegal copy, it may actually contain malware as part of the OS. You do
need a legal copy of Windows XP if that is what you want to run.
Do be careful of things that sound "Too good to be true." They usually are. Call
Microsoft. Explain the situation. Tell them you want to be compliant, and what
are your options. They are actually quite helpful with those who are reporting and
attempting to correct Windows piracy.
Do expect to spend some money on XP no matter how it works out.
