Yes, even defective memory or the controller can cause it. I'm afraid it does sound
like a motherboard change is in order. When you are running the drives in DMA mode,
you are essentially bypassing the CPU for the most part and loading data directly
into memory, so CRC can be referenced without really knowing what the cause is, either
memory/memory controller/slots/IDE controller or the drives can be at fault. All
I can say is good luck!!! ;-) If that doesn't work(motherboard change), then test/swap
everything one at a time including all of the drives. Sometimes that's all we can
do, even on a test bench.
