SP2 stuck during installation

Hi,
i've had to reload xp from the very beginning again cos i bought a new hard drive.
i'm trying to load SP2 but the installation always gets stuck at the beginning during
the "Checking Product Key" stage.
I've had SP2 running for 3hours and it never gets past this point.
Does anyone know why and how i can install SP2 successfully?
