First, watch these videos I made, to show you the problem. The Windows XP Professional
SP2 I have is Traditional Chinese version. So, basically, I'll do the translating.

---------------
Now, I can tell you exactly what is my problem.
I had asked WinDrivers forums for help, but in vain. So is the MSDN Help and Support.
Both of the videos shows I can't open exe files directly, instead it opens up a pop
up prompt which I call it the "Open With..." prompt dialog.
If I name one of the exe files to this (without quotes):
"Media Player Classic"
It will execute without fail, which baffles me.
I can't open up shortcuts, so mostly, my desktop can't be opened.
I have System Restore turned off a year ago, way before this problem started (which
is at least a week old).
Sometimes, a pop up shows this message (without quotes):
"C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32 Can't find program"
That pop up always appear when I go to Control Panel, and tried to open up one of
the settings application(s).
Sometimes, even exe files can't be opened up by itself. What I mean is: I use "Open
With..." prompt dialog to open up the same exe file I had intended to open. After
selecting it, I press Open.
What it does is: Open the exe file in that exe file itself.
It would either say the file is an unknown format, or something else, which would
cause the program to abort immediately. This includes emulators, editors, archivers,
MSI Windows Installers, Setup files, specific files from Microsoft, etc. Games like
Warcraft, Roller Coaster Tycoon, Starcraft, etc., those I could still play, with
the help of Autostart.
I had done the "expand D:\i386\rundll.ex_ ...rundll32.exe" in the command prompt.
It didn't work.
I had no idea whether my rundll32.exe is corrupted or infected. I use Spyware Doctor
version 5.1 (recent).
I had done the "Use Windows cd to replace rundll32.exe". Failed.
My last resort would be to reinstall Windows. I had nearly 40 GB worth of data stored
onto this computer. Mostly gaming and game designing programs.
Anyway, I hope to see some suggestions. I think the information I had given out is
very detailed. If it's not enough, please let me know. I will check this thread almost
every day, until I have find out the solution.
Please help me!
