It is possible that if your new SATA Drive is the new SATA2 standard , and your SATA Port on the Motherboard is the older type Port. I have noticed the new drives will sometimes have a jumper that disables the SATA2 speed to make it backward compatible to the older ports. Western Digital has some info on their web site about it if you have any trouble.
