If you start CMD.EXE and CD to the directory and start EDIT from the command line you force the command line to work in 8.3 mode. When you exit EDIT you can del *.xxx where .xxx is the extension of the offending file. I hope this is of help, if not this advice is delivered with a "money back warranty"
