media file problems

i have amd athlon xp 3000+ with msi motherboard 1gb ram and radeon x700 graphics
card. i have windows xp and vista dual boot system. all of sudden my all media files
started creating problem. when i play any media file (mp3, mpg, vcd, dvd), after
playing for some time, it suddenly stops. i have updated the video card driver, sound
card driver and tried resetting the bios configuration, but no effect. i have even
reloaded windows xp, the problem remains same. it is amazing that the problem is
also present in vista.
i am puzzled. please help me. i am using this computer for the past two years and
found no problem.
