There certainly are trojans which do this. I cannot guess at the likelihood in your case - the guy who was recently arrested in New Zealand is alleged to have been doing this. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7120251.stm It is not a global setting, but page by page. If you type in your name and the password is filed in automatically, then Windows is remembering it - and vice versa. You make the choice for Windows to remember the password (or not) when you first visit the page in question. If you read right through this_thread, you can work out how to do the opposite of what that poster wanted. The utility whose link is provided will allow you to manage passwords stored by IE (I am assuming you use Iinternet Explorer ??).
