Robert, best bet at this point would be to do a System Restore to before you made the registry change.

I'm sort of partial to the Windows Picture and Fax viewer as the default for pics. It's fast, allows you to easily rotate pictures and look through an entire folder of pictures easily. It's not meant to be an image editing program.

If you do a System Restore and get rid of the error you are seeing, I would strongly urge you to download and install ERUNT. Allow it to add an entry to the Startup folder and every time you boot it will make a complete backup of the registry. Then if anything like this happpens again you have a quick, easy way to recover.
