Yes, it is a mid range processor.
The current kings are the AMD FX series and the Intel Extreme series. The Intel Extreme
series is on top for now. Any other series of processors between the two companies
are virtually the same in performance.
The difference is the price.
We will see about next year though.
If you are building or purchasing a new PC and can't afford to spend the money for
those high end processors, then it's best to bulk up on RAM, get the baddest video
card you can afford, and go for the fastest hard drives you can find (i.e. Raptors,
SATA 3g).
I have an AMD 4200X2, nVidia 6200LE PCI-E, 2gig of RAM, and two Raptors in RAID 0
and it performs extremely well.
