I was getting the same misbehavior (no U in "behavior!" ;-)), too.
I was having trouble associating a file with Media Player Classic (mplayerc.exe).
I opened Regedit and went to \\HKCR\Applications and there was already a mplayerc.exe
key there from a previous installation. My current copy was in a new location. I
deleted the key that was there and then went to Open With... again and browsed to
the new copy of the executable and selected it. Now my file type is appropriately
associated with MPC.
