Hello:
This is one of the longest running forum posts I have ever seen with replies going
back to 2002.
Anyways over the past day I got a Logitech bluetooth keyboard and mouse and after
the install all was working fine until I tried to put my computer into S3 standby
mode and my computer would go into into standby but the fans would remain running.
Very annoying to someone who hates the sound of wizzing computer fans.
This post helped a lot in pointing me in right direction.
Anyways one of the earlier posts mentioned going into "device manager" and selecting
all the USB devices that have a power management setting and unclicking the "allow
this device to bring computer out of standby" selection box (mainly the keyboard
and mouse)....
I tried this first and it did not work....the computer would go into standby mode
and the fans would still stay on...
Frustrated I then tried another earlier posts suggestions to try the Microsoft USB
patch. See this website for details:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841858/en?spid=1173&sid=884
This kinda of worked....the patch sort of forces all the USB ports to stop drawing
power no matter what....I did manage to get my computer INTO S3 standby mode....but
when I tried to get out of standby mode both my bluetooth keyboard and mouse would
not reconnect with the bluetooth receiver....so this solution did not work for me
either.....
So what did finally worked for me? Well, somewhere either on this post or another
website I read that I had to turn off the "allow this device to take the computer
out of standby mode" in the keyboard and mouse settings....and that did it.....what
I had to do was go into the keyboard control panel applet and the mouse control panel
applet (both located in Windows Control Panel)...select the "bluetooth tab" and buried
in there was the little check box with "allow this device to take the computer out
of standby"...this box was checked so I unchecked it....then I went into "device
manager" and made sure the "allow this device to take the computer out of standby"
was unchecked for all the usb devices that had the option (again mainly the keyboard
and mouse).....I then rebooted the system and finally I could put my computer into
S3 standby mode and take it out of S3 standby mode while using my bluetooth keyboard....the
only trade off is I have to use my computers power button to take me out of standby...no
big deal really....
So to summarize if you have a bluetooth keyboard and/or mouse make sure the "allow
device to take computer out of standby" box is unchecked in both the "device manager"
and in the mouse control panel and the keyboard control panel in Windows control
panel....
Hope this helps future people who may come across this problem....
