Okay, I'll offer what I found while getting this to work for me.
Bought a new USB wired keyboard that has suspend button. I can get the computer to
sleep mode but fan stays on. Same problem as everyone else.
Here was my solution
- I have USB keyboard and mouse. I unchecked the "allow this device to bring computer
out of standby" box in both devices and bingo. Now keyboard suspend button get the
computer to sleep with fan off.
Now I have the next problem. Can't wake up computer from keyboard. Have to use the
button on front of the chassis (low on the ground) Kinda undesirable. So the solution
to this is
- follow the Microsoft directions at
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841858/en?spid=1173&sid=884
Once this was done, my usb keyboard successfully wakes up the machine and no fan
noise while in suspend mode.
However, I could not enter the value for USBBIOSx by hand as my registry didn't even
have usb under services. After tracking down the motherboard manufacturer's support
site and downloaded/ran their usbS3 patch I got usb under services and both the USBBIOSx
and USBBIOSHacks entries set to 0x0. After a reboot, everything worked as desired.
Good luck to whoever is dealing with this issue.
PS. My machine is a circa 2003 SONY VAIO PCV-RS430G. Moetherboard is ASUS P4SDX.
Keyboard was a BTC 6100C.
