Switch the PC on and insert the XP disc. Hopefully during boot up you will get the message "press any key to boot from CD........". If you dont get this message reboot and enter the bios (normally F2), go to Boot Sequence and ensure it is attempting to read the CD before the Hard Drive. Once you have pressed a key to boot from CD the PC will boot from disc, this will take a few minutes and look as though you are loading a fresh copy of windows. Dont panic, you aint!! Once it has loaded you will be presented with a screen that has 3 options. Cant remember them all but they are along the lines of a. Press r to repair windows b. Press enter to install a fresh copy of windows. c. Do something else!! Press r. At this point, you may have to wait until it presents a "dos" screen to you. At this dos prompt enter chkdsk /f. The chkdsk will then run and, once finished, will stay on screen until such time as you tell the pc to reboot. This is done by typing "exit". Once the PC has rebooted, remove the disc and the PC will boot into windows as per normal. Hope that helps
