Nero changed .dat files to Video CD type

After installing Nero, I found all my .dat extension files had been changed to 'Type: Video CD Movie'. I was able to use 'folder options' change the file association to open .dat with Notepad, but all files with the .dat extension still show the Nero icon, and are listed as video CD movie files, which is confusing when looking in directories. Can I change the association so that .dat no longer belongs to Nero, or at least change the icon, without digging into Nero itself?
