Then Windows Live Writer, it failed, saying 'need Installer 3.1', so I uninstalled Installer again from Add/Remove programs, reboot, Automatic Updates immediately gave the prompt for the Installer, I installed and Live Writer managed to install smoothly this time. (I did not rename msi.dll to .bak this time, leaving it there as it is) I think the kinks are finally ironed out for (hopefully) the last time, I suspect the main culprit in all this is the SPSS Evaluation trialware/nagware.
