XP 32 is "mainstream" so there are many, many more apps, drivers, utilities and fixes for it. XP 64 has identical security and similar stability. In theory it can be multiple times faster but in practice you are limited by internal bus speeds, disk access times, external network speed, memory speed and the like and on a general purpose PC you won't see a worthwhile difference. Unless you are an avid gamer, or do major image / multimedia manipulations, I'd definitely stick with XP 32. No doubt going back will be painful - that's just a law of nature :-(
