XP doesn't have an issue with hard drives directly. There could be an issue between
the drive and the motherboard controller in rare cases, sometimes with the drivers
involved for the IDE controller. I wasn't aware that Maxtor (now owned by Seagate)
was having any issues. Now Fugitsu on the other hand, that's a different story IME,
but still between the hardware, not with Windows. The only issue with Windows is
when you need 48 bit LBA enabled (need SP1 or 2) with a drive over 137 gig, but that
involves all manufacturers drives and/or the motherboard, not just Maxtor.
Windows may give errors with an unstable/failing HDD but that would be normal.
What was the issue with the Maxtor? Just curious..
