Problems with the taskbar

Hello. I have a problem with my taskbar - vertical separator-bars appear on it at
startup. It doesn't always happen, but when it does, their number increase each time.
These bars are visible only when the taskbar is not locked. When I lock the taskbar
they disappear, so I normally wouldn't mind, except they occupy space and this shrinks
the space for my taskbar entries. Now, for instance, only three programs appear on
the taskbar and a spinner appears next to them so I can see the others, if any. I
tried to install Windows again, but the problem persisted. Any ideas?
