Lots of people here to help you. You can make it easier if you can be more clear about the details. The IBM web site is still the best source of information about Thinkpad issues, even tho it is now IENOVO that sells the well-known laptop.

Did you already search that site? What is the full model number of the machine you have? The recovery question may depend on which model you have and it not really a general XP issue.
