SystemRestore makes no sense whatsoever. In general XP utilizes RAM very well freeing
up RAM does not normally improve performance noticeably. As I said before MSConfig
is only to be used as a temporary means of determining what can be removed. Once
you have identified what you want to remove, the Location column identifies where
to fix it permanently. That's done by deleting the indicated key in the registry.
However, someone with your knowledge level should never even open the registry.
Also as I said before you can use MSConfig as you did (you're just not supposed
to). Just don't panic over the message when you reboot as you did before. Check the
box that says something like just ignore what I've done. Also, it's not likely that
you will significantly improve inet performance by disabling anything in MSConfig.
You still have not provided a reasonable explanation of why your fiddling with these
things. I'd suggest that you find a knowledgeable friend to help you. It's really
pretty easy to thoroughly screw up your system when you don't know what you're doing.
If you noticed a significant change in performance then that is the symptom you should
state. If it's always run as it's running now, and you're just trying to make it
better - you won't.
